Performance Team FAQ's
What age can dancers join the competition teams?
Dancers must be at least age 5 to join our clogging, jazz, and hip hop, and acro performance teams, age 7 to join Musical Theater team, age 8 to join tap teams, and at least age 9 to join our contemporary team.
When are auditions and do you have to audition for all teams?
Auditions are held each year in late June for all of our performance teams aside from our Small Fry team which is composed of our youngest dancers.
Are there requirements to be on the competition teams?
Yes, you must take a technique class to participate in our competition teams. A technique class would include ballet, jazz, modern, contemporary, and more. (Hip Hop can be used as a technique class for clogging teams ONLY). Ask if you are unsure whether a class would be considered a technique class.
Do we need to commit to extra practice times to participate?
All routines will be completed during regular class times. Some extra practices will be scheduled as we get closer to competitions in order to practice production routines as a group. These are mandatory for all performance team members.
Does it cost extra to participate?
Besides your regular monthly tuition, there will be competition fees that will be due in February to be able to participate in competitions. Fees will be released as we get closer to competitions
How many competitions will we attend and are they local?
We attend 2 group competitions a year. The first competition is for our Junior, Teen and Senior Teams and the second competition is for all teams. If you participate in a clogging team you will also attend the North Eastern Clogging Convention in March and Maine Spring Fling in May. All competitions are in the New England region.
Can I do a Solo, Duo, or Trio?
All dancers who have been on a performance team for at least one season are eligible for a solo, duo or trio. This is an additional opportunity that requires extra dedication. You must be a member of the team you wish to compete your solo in and have exceptional attendance at all required classes. All accounts must be up to date in order to participate in a solo/duo/trio.
When do I need to decide if I want to be on the team?
A decision will need to be made before summer classes begin. We will be starting all our material during the summer session and will need to know who will be participating in the teams.
